GENEVA SAMS QUILTING HISTORY: She loves quilting, cooking, and traveling. She not only quilts herself but collects many from family, this area, auctions, and on her many travels. Geneva owes her love of quilting to her mother, grandmother and many neighbors. It is something she has done almost all her life from a very young age. They worked on cutting pieces for making of the quilt tops, then during the cold winters they set up their quilting frames and went from home to home in the neighborhood getting them all done till the next year. She has also given lectures on the way quilts helped out in the Underground Railroad movement. People thought they were hung out daily to be aired out but instead the quilts told stories or provided information from their designs. She has quilted with her good friend Mildred Fisher at the O'Bannon Woods Log Cabin helping visitors learn the art of hand quilting and cooking over an open fire demonstrating both during special occasions and holiday weekends.
